Shift Duties
Monitor radar data and make scientific notes on form provided by the Chief Scientist
Every hour on the hour:
Make standard WMO observations of cloud types and cover
In daylight, document clouds surrounding ship with film and digital cameras
When 2 gps sounds a day, launch at 0 and 12 UTC
When 6 gps soundings a day, launch at 0, 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 UTC
Additional Omega soundings may be launched in storm conditions
Ensure that sounding data is recorded
Every hour at 40 minutes after the hour:
Check that radar data are being recorded
Check that rain gauges and distrometers are recording data
Monitor ship science instrument data streams (i.e., IMET)
Assist Mr. Gray (Radar Engineer) as requested (e.g., radar calibrations)
Your own scientific work and analysis if it does not interfere with the tasks above
