Directions for Copying Images to Local Machine

In order to keep this page available as a reference while you peruse the available data, click on the "Clone" button at the bottom of the Mosaic window. A second Mosaic window will appear that will retain the contents of this page while you go back and forth through the main Mosaic window.

From inside Mosaic:

  1. Go to the section of the TOGA COARE satellite summaries where you would normally go to click on some hypertext to have the desired image displayed. If you are copying the postscript version of the time-size plots or the time-longitude map, go to the section of the document where copying these postscript files is discussed.
  2. From the "Options" menu at the top of the Mosaic window, set "Load to Local Disk". (Look at the Options menu again. If set properly, a yellow square will appear before "Load to Local Disk".)
  3. Click on the hypertext associated with the image. If you are interested in the PHC maps and would like to copy them all at once, click on the "Copy All PHC Images" hypertext at the bottom of the page. In the "Name for binary file on local disk" box, indicate where you'd like to store this file. You can name the file anything you want.
  4. From the "Options" menu at the top of the Mosaic window, unset "Load to Local Disk". (Look at the Options menu again. If unset properly, the yellow square which was in front of "Load to Local Disk" should be gone.) If this is not done properly, none of the hypertext will work correctly and everything that is clicked on will be transferred to the local machine.
The file(s) should now reside on your local machine. If you have copied individual images, skip down to the "From inside Mosaic" bullet below. If you have copied all of the PHC maps using the "Copy All PHC Images" option, then follow these additional steps:
  1. Go to the directory on your local machine where the images reside.
  2. The file you copied from Mosaic is a tar file of all the PHC map images. To get the individual image files, untar the copied file (type: "tar xvf filename"). This will give you a series of PHC map image files (PHC.*.gif).
From inside Mosaic:
  1. If you have cloned the instruction window and no longer need it, choose "Close Window" from the "File" pulldown menu in the top left corner of the Mosaic window. This will close the cloned window.
