TRMM Tethered sonde team at Meck Island
Daily Activity Report for August 1, 2
All measurement systems associated with the tethered balloon and flux tower at Meck Island are operating normally. For each day, four tethered balloon flights were accomplished under mostly fair weather conditions. In all balloon soundings the convective boundary layer heights were well defined and ranged from 400 to 600 m, with an overall averaged potential temperature of ~300 K within the mixed layer. Wind speed varied between 2-10 m per second. On the tower, air temperature and relative humidity varied between 298 and 207 K and 50 to 90 %, respectively. Wind speed at 10 m above the surface were light 2 to 6 m per s. Wind direction shifted from northeasterly to southerly and at times southwesterly to westerly. Tethered balloon data soundings (profiles) and related data without minimum quality control are available on disk from the project office. The data will be placed on the TRMM KWAJEX website.
