TRMM Tethered Sonde Team at Meck Island

Daily Activity Report for August 7

Tethersonde and flux tower measurement systems worked properly. Four flights were conducted on August 6 at 23:00Z, and on August 7 at 5:00Z, 11:00Z, and 17:00Z (see JPEG images on disk). The boundary layer heights ranged from 300 to 500m. Average potential temperature within the mixed layer during each flight was approximately 300 K while specific humidity varied between 18 and 20 g/kg.

Several figures describing the meteorological conditions at Meck Island during August 5-6 are provided on disk. Relative humidity varied from 62% to 88%. Temperatures ranged from 300 K at night to 304 K during the day. Winds were primarily southeasterly, ranging from 2.0 to 8.0 m/s.
