TRMM Tethered Sonde Team On Meck Island
Daily Activity Report for Aug 9, 1999
All measurement systems associated with the tethered balloon and flux tower operated normally. Due to unsettled weather conditions only the 23:00 (August 8) and 05:00 (August 9) GMT balloon soundings were done. Stormy weather conditions persisted throughout the night, with sustained winds exceeding 16 m/s. The 05:00 am sounding (8/8 -17:00 GMT) had a boundary layer of 500 m as well as the 11:00 AM sounding. These balloon flights were done in fair weather conditions. The 5:00 PM sounding (5:00 Aug 9 GMT) had a mixed layer height of about 300 m. During the daytime The winds was a steady NE wind with speeds ranging from 5 to 7 m per s throughout the day.
