TRMM Tethered Sonde Team at Meck Island
Daily Activity Report for August 12–13
Tethersonde and flux tower measurement systems worked properly. Four flights were conducted on August 12 at 23:00Z, and on August 13 at 5:00Z, 11:00Z (flight was ended early due to rain), and 17:00Z (see JPEG images on disk). The boundary layer heights ranged from 300 to 400m. Average potential temperature within the mixed layer during each flight was approximately 300 K while specific humidity varied between 17 and 20 g/kg (day), and over 20g/kg for the 11:00Z sounding.
Figures describing the meteorological conditions at Meck Island on August 11–12 are provided on disk. The relative humidity varied from 77% to 97%, while temperatures ranged from 300 K at night to 296 K during the day. Winds were northwesterly, shifting to northeasterly in the evening. Wind speeds ranged from 15 m/s during the 22:00Z storm, to 0 m/s in the early evening.
