TRMM Tethered Balloon Site: Meck Island
Daily Activity Report for August 26–27 GMT
Tethered balloon soundings were done at 2300Z on August 26, 0600Z and 11:00Z on August 27. The 1700Z sounding (August 27) was cancelled due to light rain and heavy cloud cover. Battery failure during the 2300Z sounding on August 26 resulted in no data collection. Failure of the pressure sensor during the 1100Z sounding (August 27) resulted in the loss of most of the data.
Tower and radiation measurement systems functioned well. Microclimate data for August 26 is included on disk. Air temperatures on Meck Island ranged from approximately 299K to 301K (there was a large dip in temperature in the late afternoon due to repair work on the tower aspiration system. Relative humidity varied from 68% to 90%. Winds were predominately northeasterly, with wind speeds ranging from approximately 3 to 12 m/s.
