TRMM Tethered Balloon Site: Meck Island
Daily Activity Report for August 29–30 GMT
Sensor malfunctions have limited tethersonde activity for the past several days. One tethered balloon flight was conducted at 2300Z on August 29. The flight failed due to a problem with the battery connections. Further soundings were not possible due to the prevailing weather conditions. Tower and radiation measurement systems functioned well. Sample data from August 28-29 is included on disk. Air temperatures on Meck Island ranged from approximately 299K to 303K. Relative humidity varied from 65% to 95%. Winds were east-northeasterly, with wind speeds ranging from approximately 1 to 10 m/s.
A substantial storm moved through the area at approximately 0230Z on August 30. 36 mm of rain were recorded in 38 minutes, and wind gusts as high as 21 m/s were also recorded.
