TRMM Tethered Balloon Site: Meck Island

Daily Activity Report for September 2-3 GMT

No Meck tethersonde flights were completed during this 24-hour period due to moderate to heavy rains throughout the daylight hours, and missile surveillance observations at night.

Tower and radiation measurement systems functioned reasonably well, though the peak in air temperature seen at two levels on the tower at approximately 245.6 decimal days is suspect. Air temperatures on Meck Island ranged from approximately 297K to 302K. Relative humidity varied from 65% to over 90%. Winds were predominately easterly, shifting later in the day to southwesterly after the storms passed. Wind speeds ranged from approximately 1 to 15 m/s. The radiation boom was again disassembled due to an incoming barge – data is unavailable after approximately 2000Z on 2 Sept.
