The Ice Ages

The Climate of the past that our group researched was the Ice Ages. We discovered that the Ice Ages are periods of significant and extended cooling among the Earth's Oceans, Atmosphere, and Land.

We found that there are determining factors that must be present for an Ice Age to occur.
Determining Factors for an Ice Age:
> Earth's orbit, tilt, and eccentricity
> Changes in the Sun's energy
> Placement of World's Landmasses and Mountains
> Balance of Cold and Snow - Albedo

In our research we also discovered there are many theories as to why the Ice Ages took place. Some of these theories include-
Theories Behind Ice Ages
> Milankovitch
> Ocean Circulation
> Interstellar Dust
> Greenhouse Effect

Since Professor Wallace discussed the Milankovitch theory in dept in lecture we decided to not focus too heavily on the different theories. However, since the class has been studying the Greenhouse effect we thought that the Greenhouse effect theory would be interesting to discuss.
