This section discusses how to generate, view, and dump IVE loops.

The Build Loop option in IVE allows you to create a series of frames along any fixed coordinate in your data set. These loops can be animated in the interactive IVE display and/or dumped to a set of graphics files.

Loop Requirements:

Building and Viewing a Loop:

  1. IVE Main Window: Click on the Build Loop box to bring up the Loop Setup widget. (Typing the appropriate LOOP parameters at the command line automatically builds the loop and allows you to skip to step 3).

  2. Loop Setup Window: IVE displays your fixed coordinates along the top of the Loop Setup window. With the left mouse button, click on the diamond-shaped button that corresponds to the coordinate that you wish to vary in a loop. Then, select start and end values of that coordinate by dragging the slider bars with the left mouse button. Finally, position the mouse arrow on the Increment box, input the desired interval between each loop frame, and hit the <RETURN> key. This increment value determines the number of frames in the loop. Click on Go to generate the loop and activate the Loop Control window.

  3. Loop Control Window: Click the Run box once to view the loop. Three loop directions are available: forward, backward, and cycle. Choose the direction of the loop by clicking on the Direction box with the left mouse button. To adjust the speed of the loop, drag the Loop Delay slider to the desired value. To pause between loops, increase the beginning pause or end pause value.

IVE also contains a manual loop feature. During loop execution, click the middle mouse button on the graphic display. This pauses the loop. Now, use the left and right mouse buttons to scroll backward and forward through the loop. Clicking the middle mouse button again resumes the loop. This manual loop feature is also performed in the Loop Control window by clicking the left mouse button on Run and scrolling with the Step arrows.
