Undergrads: Neurological Surgery Summer Student Program

Applications for the Neurological Surgery Summer Student Program (NSSSP) will open Friday, November 1st, 2019!

If you have an interest in the neurosciences and desire lab experience in neurological biomedical research, please apply!

Applicants chosen to participate in the program will receive stipends of $3,200 for college students or $2,667 for high school students over the duration of the 8-week program. (Note: high school or recent high school graduates must be 18 years of age or older by the first day of the program in order to participate.) Limited housing stipends (no meals or transportation) are available for out-of-area students.

Program participation includes

  • an eight-week placement in a neuroscience lab
  • weekly Lunch-and-learn neuroscience faculty lectures that include both scientific topics and vocational aspects of the field, from the basics of resume writing and how to interview successfully, to the latest advances in nanomedicine
  • operating room shadowing and in-patient rounding experiences with UW neurological surgeons
  • weekly attendance at Wednesday Neurological Surgery Grand Rounds Lectures featuring Visiting Professors from across the country

Several students from our earlier classes have now been accepted into medical school and other clinical training programs, and many students just entering college have gone into neuro-science or pre-med studies.

The application period will close on Thursday, January 2nd, 2020 at 5pm PT. Application is free.

Please email nsssp@uw.edu with any questions you may have about the application process.
