Animations Library
The Animations Library is an ongoing project designed to serve as a community resource for instructors and students in geosciences courses at the secondary and postsecondary levels. It comprises several hundred short (less than a minute long), silent, freely downloadable videos from various providers, including NAS and NOAA and university scientists and storm chasers. Most of them are based on satellite and ground based, time lapse imagery, but a few are based on models. Extended captions point out features of interest. Topics include the climatology, tropical and extratropical cyclones, convective storms, gravity waves, the transport of aerosols and trace gases, the sea surface temperature distribution, the marine and terrestrial biosphere, and the cryosphere.
The project started as part of the online supplementary materials for our textbook, The Atmospheric General Circulation, and the videos are ordered in a manner designed to complement the text for that book. It can be accessed here. We are presently in the process of creating another version of the library that will be accessible by way of the subject index, much like the indexes in books.
