You are a drop of water, floating in the ocean. [[Float up->ocean3]] [[Float down->ocean2]]As you descend, you notice something in the distance swimming towards you. [[Float towards it->tuna1]] [[Continue your descent->ocean8]]As it approaches, you realize, it is a school of tuna! A big, dead-eyed tuna fish swims past you and breathes you right in. You're in a pickle. Well, a fish rather. [[Continue->tuna2]]It's a nice fish, at least. You might as well make yourself comfy and enjoy the ride. There is an abrupt bump, and you feel yourself being lifted. The fish gasps for breath, and you can see a sliver of sky! [[Escape!->boat1]] [[Stay. A captain always goes down with his fish.->tuna4]]You dribble out of the fish's mouth, and find yourself on the peak of a mountain- a mountain of fish. The mountain of fish is being hoisted out of the water by a large net, which is being hoisted out of the water by an even larger fishing boat. Fishermen walk around on deck. [[Stay at the top of fish mountain->boat2]] [[Dribble back into the ocean->bucket12]]An honorable choice. From out of the fish's mouth you can see a fishing boat. Fisherman run around on the deck. You can feel yourself being lifted further and further out of the water by what appears to be a huge net. Suddenly the net swings, and you can feel yourself falling into a dark pit. [[Continue->tuna5]]Your reign as the king of fish mountain is short-lived. The net swings, and you only barely manage to cling to the netting as the fish are emptied into a dark hole. [[Drop into the hole->tuna5]] [[Hold on for dear life!->boat3]]Ahhhh! It's completely black and smells like fish. There is a lot of gasping for breath. There's nowhere for you to go, and nothing to do but wait. [[Continue->tuna7]]You cling to the netting, which swings away from the ominous hole, and you find yourself dangling above a bucket. [[Hang on for dear life->dangle]] [[Let go->bucket1]]You hang on a little longer, but you don't think you can keep it up forever. [[Keep clinging->dangle]] [[Give up->bucket1]]You are just a drop in the bucket. [[Float up->bucket2]] [[Float down->bucket3]]You are at the bottom of the bucket of water. You see a small crack in the side. [[Float upwards->bucket2]] [[Float to the crack->bucket5]]As you bob to the surface, you hear an argument going on between two fisherman. "Dammit, Tad! Learn how to tye a sailor's knot." [[Continue eavesdropping->bucket6]] [[Float down->bucket3]]Normally crack isn't the answer, but you make an exception. You float up to the crack and squeeze yourself through it! Now you are a small damp spot on the boat deck. [[Well now what?->boat6]]Something cold and metallic slices you nearly half. A knife! You are flooded with daylight, and fish guts spill out everywhere. [[Escape!->boat4]] [[No! A captain always goes down with his fish!->tuna9]]Eventually the gasping stops, and you are alone with nothing but the smell of fish to keep you company. You stay here for several days. [[Continue->tuna8]]You're tossed into yet another hole. It's pitch black again, and it still smells like fish. But this time it is really cold. [[Continue->tuna10]]You fall directly into a pile of fish guts! Before you have a chance to re-think your life decisions, you are brushed aside into a bloody bucket of fish parts. You try to look on the bright side, and wonder if you'll maybe wind up in a glass of Guinness. But your hopes are dashed into the ocean, along with a bevy of fish parts. [[Continue->ocean5]]After a few hours, you realize it's not just cold. It's freezing cold. Literally freezing cold. You are frozen solid. [[Continue->tuna11]]You hear an engine running, and you smell exhaust. You're vaguely aware of the fact that you're not on a boat anymore. [[Continue->tuna12]]I don't know, you got yourself into this mess. [[Jump up off the boat deck->boat7]]You can't just disregard physics like that. [[Fine.->boat8]]All of a sudden, there is a crack of daylight and you feel yourself being carried in crate. Before long, you're dumped onto a conveyor belt with strips of fish meat. [[Continue->sushi1]]You feel yourself getting warmer. At least it's a nice day out. [[Soak up some rays->boat9]]As you warm up, you feel yourself becoming lighter and lighter. You feel like floating. [[Float->boat10]]To your amazement, you begin to float off the ground. You can see two men arguing on the boat deck. As you float ever higher, you see one of them takes the bucket of water and throws it into the other's face! [[Continue->cloud5]]The ocean brightens, and you bob to the surface. Far on the horizon, you can see a sliver of land. [[Float towards the land->beach1]] [[Float back under the surface->ocean1]]After a long ordeal of being chopped and prodded by various pieces of machinery, you are squirted with wasabi, smacked with a blob of rice, and spun around a spool of seaweed. You are immediately packed into a plastic container and rolled into a truck bed. It feels like a very long time since you've been in the ocean. [[Continue->sushi2]]Once again, you are alone in the blackness with only the smell of fish and the sound of an engine to keep you company. The only difference is the wasabi, which makes you cry a little. [[Continue->sushi3]]Finally, the day of truth arrives! You are hauled out of the truck and precariously placed on a refrigerated shelf in a loud, brightly colored supermarket. You look around, and see that you are trapped inside one among a sea of identical sushi packages. [[Wait to be purchased->sushi5]] [[Give up hope->sushi4]]You've had enough of waiting to be purchased, and decide that it's time to plan your escape. You notice that the sushi package is about halfway off the shelf. Maybe if you roll to the other side it will fall? No, that's ridiculous. [[Actually, I'll wait to be purchased->sushi6]] [[Roll to the other side->sushi7]]You are a drop of water, floating in an ocean of sushi packages. As you watch shoppers go by, your sense of excitement fades into trepidation. A whole day goes by, but nobody bites. [[Wait to be purchased->sushi6]] [[Give up hope->sushi4]]You try to position yourself in a visually appealling way on the sushi roll, but you're starting to feel desperate. You notice a calendar in the corner of the supermarket that reads April 24th. You feel icewater shoot through your veigns, as you read the sell by date printed on your label: April 24. [[Wait to be purchased->sushi8]] [[Give up hope->sushi4]]As you roll across the roll, you feel the weight of the package begin to tip. What a wonderful coincidence, you think to yourself, that the weight of one water drop is enough to sway an entire package of sushi! Unfortunately, your sense of self-importance is cut short by the floor. The plastic cracks open and the sushi splatters across the cold tile. [[Continue->sushi12]]You are a drop of water in the ocean. You can faintly detect the scent of blood. [[Follow the scent->ocean6]] [[Avoid the scent->ocean1]]As the smell of blood grows stronger, a dark shape in the distance looms larger. [[Follow the smell of blood->shark1]] [[Swim away, swim away!->ocean5]]It's near closing time. To your right, there an employee is checking product's expiration dates and throwing some of them into a garbage bag. [[Give up hope->sushi9]] [[Give up hope->sushi9]]You had just given up hope, when seemingly from out of nowhere, a woman rushes by and scoops you out. Your heart skips a beat. [[Continue->sushi10]]Your are so busy daydreaming about your newfound guardian angel that the next few minutes are a blur. But you are suddenly aware that she is picking up the sushi roll right next to yours, and popping it into her mouth! [[Continue->sushi11]]As she chews, her espression turns to a grimace. "Ugh. Too dry!" she mutters, and to your complete horror, she takes the remaining sushi and throws it into a nearby trash bin. As you fly through the air, your life flashes before your eyes. You remember your journey, from ocean, to fish, to boat, to factory, to truck, to shelf, all for nothing. If only she had picked my sushi roll, you think, maybe she wouldn't have thought it was too dry. Maybe I could have been the water drop that made the difference. Your heart is broken. But you're a drop of water, and life goes on. [[Continue->trash1]]You finally land on the waste bin, which you realize actually has three separate compartments: one marked "Compost", one marked "Recycling", and one marked "Landfill". Bits of sushi fall into the recycling bin, and you shake your head sadly. Sushi is clearly not recyclable. You are perfectly poised to trickle into any three of the compartments. [[Trickle towards compost->landfill1]] [[Trickle towards recycling->landfill1]] [[Trickle towards landfill->landfill1]]You fall onto a pile of trash, directly into a styrofoam cup. Looking up, you realize that recycling, compost and landfill compartments were not separated at all- they all lead to the same exact garbage bin. It seems that free will is merely and illusion. After a long wait, you are sealed up in trash bag, and tossed into a garbage truck. For the longest while, you are alone in the dark with nothing but the smell of garbage to keep you company. [[Continue->landfill2]]A gargantuan mass of flesh and teeth tears through the water and swallows you whole. You are in the belly of a Great White. [[Float over to his teeth->shark2]] [[Float deeper into his belly->shark3]]You float lazily through the chop, towards the distant shore. You are just starting to wonder whether it's a mirage, when a swell of current takes hold of you. You find yourself pulled towards a beach. [[Continue->beach2]]You are awash in the surf at an archetypal crowded beach. Surfers surf, swimmers swim, and beachgoers go beach. A group of small children appear to be having a birthday party. It is an exceptionally sunny day (with the exception of an ominous cloud lurking overhead.) There is a pretty little estuary a short ways to the left. A sign in the sand reads: "BE WARY OF RISING SEA LEVELS, AND SHARKS", but no one seems to be paying it much attention. [[Wash ashore->beach3]] [[Float left, towards the estuary->beach9]] [[Float right, further up the coast->beach4]] [[Float back out to sea->ocean7]]You catch a wave, which crashes on the shore. You splash onto a beach towel. To your left is a coconut drink. Attractive beachgoers frolick around you. You're amazed at your good fortune, and although you're just a drop of water, you wonder if maybe, just maybe, you've finally found your home. [[Soak up some rays->beach6]] [[It's too good to be true, get back into the ocean->beach7]] You are floating by a scenic shoreline, about a hundred feet up the coast from a busy beach. The wave gently laps against tangled grasses. The one thing that's not no scenic is a rusty pipe spewing dirty- looking water into the ocean. You are mildly concerned for the health of the beachgoers. [[Float into the pipe->beach5]] [[Float back to the beach->beach2]] [[Float back out to sea->ocean7]]You try, but you can't go up the pipe, because water pressure is pushing you the other way. Besides, it looks pretty gross. [[Continue->beach4]]The journey is long, but you finally make it back out to sea. (You can take the drop out of the ocean, but you can't take the ocean out of the drop!) [[Continue->ocean1]]Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, this is the life. You wish you could just stay here forever, and then you realize, you can stay here forever! It's not like you have any responsibilities or anything. A warm cozy feeling spreads all over you. [[Keep on soaking up them rays->beach8]]You roll off the towel and onto the sand. You soak into the surface. [[Continue->rain4]]The sunshine fills you with warmth, and your cares flood away. You start to feel lighter, as if you are floating. Suddenly, you realize you are floating! You look down, and your beach towel is already out of your reach. Your perfect life fades into the distance, as you float ever higher into the sky. [[Continue->cloud1]]You are a tiny drop of water vapor, far above a sandy coastline. A bit further inland you spot an ominous cloud. [[Float into the cloud->cloud2]] [[Float out to sea->cloud5]] [[Float further inland->cloud6]] [[Float higher->high1]]You condense, and are absorbed into the cloud, which darkens a bit. Beachgoers look up, mildly concerned. You notice that a rift is forming in the cloud... one half is drifting towards the ocean, while the other half is drifting inland. [[Float inland->cloud4]] [[Float towards the sea->cloud3]] [[Precipitate->rain1]]
[[D•R•O•P->ocean1]]
Created by Ben CelsiA voice echoes over the intercom: "Cleanup, on isle 13". As you watch the sushi roll being swept into the trash, you reflect on the long journey that the sushi took to get here. You feel guilty that you gave up so easily, but now, there are bigger fish to fry, the first of which being the fact that you're stuck on the floor of a supermarket. [[Continue->floor10]]Well, his teeth are pretty teethy. You decide to explore the shark's belly instead. [[Continue->shark3]]You float along, following a trail of fish bones, until you reach a familiar shape... deep in the belly of the Great White, there is a partially digested carcass of a smaller shark! Without a doubt, this is the darkest, starkest, sharkiest carcass you've ever seen. [[Enter the smaller shark carcass->shark4]] [[Float back up the great white's throat->shark8]]You finally feel yourself being tilted up, and you tumble, along with all the other bags of trash, onto a garbage pile. A bulldozer pushes you onto into a huge trash barge. Soon, you hear a motor start and the barge sets sail, belching black smoke. You notice a tear in the trashbag. [[Cling to your styrofoam cup->landfill3]] [[Trickle out of the tear->landfill4]]Sturdy styrofoam, as they always say. The trash barge slowly makes its way towards the setting sun. Hardly a typical Hollywood happy ending, but you take comfort in what you can. Eventually your trash heap is trasported off the barge, shoved in yet another garbage truck. [[Continue->landfill5]]You trickle out of the trash bag and fall on a piece of old ham, which is perched precariously on the side of the barge. You notice a scraggly seagull hopping around on the barge. [[Soak into the ham->bird1]] [[Trickle off the side into the water->landfill11]]You approach the ham, and begin clinging to it. Suddenly, the scraggly seagull hops over to you and begins gently pecking at the ham. Before you can do anything about it, the seagull swallows you whole, and takes off! [[Continue->bird2]] You fall off the side of the barge, and a few trash bags fall in after you. You are relieved to be back in the ocean, but slightly disgusted that even here you can not escape trash. Oh well, you think. Water under the barge. [[Venture further out to sea->ocean7]]Well, you've done it this time. You are trapped in the throat of a seagull, with nothing but some partially digested ham. Suddenly, the seagull starts coughing, and you notice a small plastic bottle cap lodged in its throat! [[Make your escape through the seagull's beak->bird3]] [[Try to dislodge the bottle cap->bird4]]You drop out of the seagull's open beak, and fall straight into the ocean. Freedom! Moments later you hear a splash, the seagull, still choking on the bottle cap, has fallen in after you. [[Try to help the seagull->bird5]] [[Float away->ocean1]]By moistening it, the seagull barely manages to hawk up the bottle cap (along with a few bits of ham.) You hear it splash in the ocean below. [[Continue->bird6]]You try to help, but the seagull has stopped moving, and besides, there is very little a drop of water can do to save a drowning seagull. Its only legacy to the world is a thin trail of blood and a few particles of ham. [[Continue->ocean5]]You soar over the ocean, towards a jagged cliff. The seagull approaches a barren tree, and lands at its base. Nestled between the rocks is a shoddily put together nest, complete with three scrawny baby gulls! [[Continue->bird7]]Your enchantment with the cute little birdies gives way to complete and utter disgust as the mama bird sticks her beak down their throats and upchucks some partially digested ham. You tumble down a gullet. [[Continue->bird8]]You've been on the floor for a long while now. Surely, something interesting must happen now? [[Yes, it will->floor2]] [[No, it won't->floor3]]Well, here you are. On the floor of a supermarket. [[Continue->floor1]]Your pessimism is matched only by your precognition. Nothing happens. [[Continue->floor4]]Optimism schmoptimism. Nothing happens. [[Continue->floor4]]Nothing happens. [[Continue->floor5]]Nothing happens. [[Continue->floor6]]Nothing happens. [[Continue->floor7]] You try to recall the definition of insanity, but you can't. You try to recall it again, but you still can't. It's moments like these that these that make you regret your immortality. [[Continue->floor8]]Suddenly, everything goes black. Maybe you were a bit hasty in your renouncement of immortality! Hmmm... That's not it, you realize. You are stuck on the bottom of someone's shoe. [[Drop back onto the floor->floor10]] [[Stick to the shoe->shoe1]]You pace around a bit, or rather, you are paced around a bit. Each time a step is taken, you get your head squashed. You wonder what kind of a person is wearing you right now. You decide you will call them "Mr. Shoes" until you can be formally introduced. Suddenly, there is a muffled scream. [[Continue->shoe2]]You hear the jingle of cash register, and after a painful episode of foot-tapping, Mr. Shoes sets off in a dead sprint. You wonder what he's in such a hurry about, but you're glad to be out of the supermarket! [[Continue->shoe3]]You hear the sound of a faraway police siren. As the siren grows louder, the pace quickens. You catch a glimpse of a patch of slippery-looking pavement coming up ahead. [[Stick to the shoe->shoe4]] [[Fly off the shoe->shoe5]]The water darkens around you. You think it might be dangerous to go much deeper. A chill passes through you. [[Float with the chill->ocean9]] [[Float deeper->deep1]]You feel yourself being pulled by a swift underwater current, deeper and deeper, colder and colder. [[Go with flow->glacier1]] [[No, go where the flow don't go->ocean11]]Cool choice. You have so much fun riding the current that time slips away from you. When you finally emerge on the surface, you are surprised to see a gleaming, white sandy beach sprawled out in the distance. You even think you can make out a few tropical huts. [[Float towards the white sandy beaches->glacier2]] [[Float back out to sea->ocean7]] You stick to the shoe, and make a full on collision with the slippery surface. You can feel yourself slip along the pavement, and all of a sudden, Mr. Shoes is going head over heels (or rather, heels over head.) You are flung high in the air, and finally catch a glimpse of Mr. Shoes, who is wearing all black and carrying a plastic bag. You fall into the gutter. You can hear a screech of police tires, and a lot of yelling. [[Continue->drain1]]In the brief moment while you are airborn, you finally get a good look at Mr. Shoes, who is wearing black and carrying a plastic bag. He must have realized he's late to something, because he's really booking it. You land in the gutter. [[Continue->drain1]]You're in the gutter. It's slightly better than being in a gut. It's not the first time this has happened, and it surely won't be the last. There is a storm drain a short distance away. [[Trickle towards the storm drain->drain2]] [[Trickle away from the storm drain->drain3]]You fall between the grate, and land in small water basin. You flow to the far end of basin, and pour over the edge of a concrete ledge. [[Continue->drain5]]You try to trickle away from the drain, but you're very lazy, and something about the "path of least resistance" sounds very inviting to you right now. You find yourself trickling towards the drain. [[Continue->drain2]]You finally shoot around a particularly twisty passageway, and find yourself spat out in midair above a beautiful woodland stream! You can hear woodland critters chittering. You turn off your mind, relax, and float downstream. [[Continue->river5]]The stream swallows you up and deepens into a mighty river. Although you are but a drop, you feel that you have become one with the river. You are so caught up in your inner zen, that you barely notice the fork in the river coming up ahead! [[Swerve left->river6]] [[Swerve right->river6]]You are floating at the foot of a pretty little estuary. Pretty that is, except for an old ham sandwich gently twirling in the current. What a shame that people don't pick up after themselves, you think. A scraggly seagull hops around hapharzardly. A little ways up the shore is a crowded beach. [[Swim up the estuary->beach10]] [[Float towards the beach->beach2]] [[Approach the ham sandwich->bird1]]Good choice. The river continues on a windy path. Lazy golden sunlight floats through the trees, as you trickle over marsh grasses. Ahead of you lies a nice little estuary, and beyond that is the ocean. You slow down a bit as you approach the estuary. What a fun ride, you think to yourself. [[Continue->beach9]]You try to swim up the estuary, but the current pushes you back. [[Continue->beach9]]Enthused for your prospective new vacation spot, you head towards the beach and spash onto the shore! [[Continue->glacier3]]Hmm. You prickle a bit. Something isn't quite right, you think. This beach isn't very sandy. You look to the tropical hut, and gasp- that's no hut! That's an igloo! You aren't on a beach. You are on a chunk of ice, somewhere in the arctic! And what's worse, you realize, now you are stuck- frozen solid! [[Continue->glacier4]]You can't! You're frozen! That means you can't move. You've heard tale of water drops that wound up in the arctic, never to be seen of again. You could be stuck here thousands of years. Or millions. [[Continue->glacier5]]Your distress at the prospect of eternal boredom is interrupted by a loud sneeze. A chubby polar bear cub is lumbering right towards you! He walks just past you and curls up on the icy shoreline. At any other time you would be enchanted. But right now, you are in a dire situation. [[Continue->glacier7]]You try, and fail, to think of a plan. You are frozen in place and have absolutely no options. You are so frustrated at your predicament, you start shaking with rage. [[Continue->glacier8]]As you vibrate with anger, you feel yourself flush with heat. You are starting to melt! All you can do now is keep vibin'. [[Continue->glacier15]]Anger must be contagious, because as you vibrate, the ice around you also starts to vibrate. A thin crack appears in the ice. [[Continue->glacier9]]With a lot of effort and a little help from your friends, the crack in the ice widens, and finally, a large chunk of ice breaks off from the mainland. Victory! In your excitement, however, you completely forgot about the napping polar bear cub! He is still asleep, but now he is stuck with you on a chunk of ice floating towards the open ocean! [[Stay with the cub->glacier10]] [[Eh, get back in the ocean->glacier11]]You feel somewhat responsible for the polar bear cub, so you stick to the hunk of ice you worked so hard to break free of. The mainland already looks pretty far away. You wish you could do something to comfort the poor bear, but you are just a partially frozen water drop. If only you could somehow wake him up... [[Continue->glacier12]] Oh well. Polar bears can swim right? As you dip under the surface, the poor cub floats ever closer to the horizon. Life goes on, you think. Or, maybe it doesn't. A current pulls you towards warmer waters. [[Continue->ocean7]]Oh. You go against the flow. The place you go, no one know. [[So where'd I go, though?->ocean1]]Luckily there is a slight incline that allows you to roll towards the snoozing cub. [[Roll towards the cub's paws->glacier13]] [[Roll towards the cub's closed eyes->glacier13]] [[Roll towards the cub's ears->glacier13]] [[Roll towards the cub's teeth->glacier13]] [[Roll towards the cub's whiskers->glacier14]]As you brush up gently against the cub, you sadly realize that you are just a water droplet. You just don't have the physical capacity to get his attention. The mainland already looks very far away; you doubt if he would be able to make the swim anyway. It's regrettable, but you think you're going to have to leave him here. You wish him good luck. [[Trickle into the ocean->ocean7]]You gently brush up against the cub's whiskers, which twitch with exasperation. Before you know it, the cub has sneezed himself awake. After scrambling briefly on the small patch of ice, the cub sits bolt upright and stares with disbelief at the mainland in the distance. A moment goes by, and the cub pushes off and starts swimming for land. [[Continue->glacier6]]There it is! The other drop is sitting on a leaf a short distance away, further down the hill. You're not sure whether you should approach it or just allow yourself to slink away into the earth. [[Roll down the hill, towards the drop->hill6]] [[Slink away into the earth->ground1]]You land on a leaf, high in the forest canopy. You notice another drop of water on the tip of the leaf, who seems to be refracting sunlight in your direction. Maybe you should get together? [[Roll toward the other drop->hill2]] [[Roll away from the other drop->hill3]]You absorb into the dirt, and everything around you becomes dark and dirty-smelling. There is really nothing for you to do now but sink further. [[Continue->ground2]]As you continue in your descent, your surroundings become damp and slightly sticky. You think you may have been eaten by a worm, but you can't quite tell. [[Continue->ground3]]You're just passing through. Passing through a worm, that is. Well, that was fun. As you descend, your surroundings become decidedly more wet. Soon, you find yourself dripping through a cracked, rocky surface, into a underground pool. The sound of dripping reverberates in the darkness. Two winding channels branch out out from this secret pool, each equally unnerving. [[Take the left channel ->ground4]] [[Take the right channel ->ground4]]You flow through the channel for some time. A blue light begins glowing around you, and you realize that you are no longer confined by a ceiling of soil. You float upwards and find that you have been channeled into a gently flowing stream. [[Continue->river5]]Exploring sure was fun, but you you've had enough. While you were preoccupied, the shark has been busy booking it. You float over to its crooked teeth, where, from your limited view, it appears that the shark has made its way into shallow waters. [[Continue->shark10]]After a long ride, you finally arrive in what you figure must be the landfill. Trash surrounds you, as far as the eye can see. A man walks in front of the truck, directing it towards a particularly garbagey pile of garbage. You catch a glimpse of the back of his t-shirt, which reads: I MAY BE A GARBAGE MAN BUT I'M NOT A GARBAGE HUMAN BEING [[Continue->landfill6]]While not as big as the great white, this is no small shark. You float through a hole in its side and examine the contents of its stomach. Most everything has dissolved, except for a large tuna fish, which stares at you with white eyes. [[Enter the body of the tuna->shark5]] [[Float back up the Great White's throat->shark8]]You enter the tuna through its dead gills, and make your way to its crowded stomach. Here, amazingly in near pristine condition, is a tiny translucent squid, cushioned by gray tuna guts. The arrangement reminds you of a shrine. [[Enter the squid->shark6]] [[Float back to the great white's throat->shark8]]As you explore the squid's insides, you find a thick black mass lodged above its eye. You approach the mass curiously, only to have it erupt around you in pillars of opaque blackness. Too late, you realize what you've done- you've popped its ink sack! You are completely lost. The darkness is thickens. Slowly, however, tiny points of light emerge. Tiny krill bioluminesce around you, faint and blue. You are amazed at this tiny microcosm of the galaxy, deep in the belly of a squid. [[Continue->shark7]]You have had enough of this fishy babushka doll, and you make your way back to the great white's throat. [[Continue->shark8]]Suddenly, in an unpredictable thrust of madness, the shark lurches forward and stretches its jaws open wide. You cling to one of its jagged teeth and finally get a look at where you are. A crowded beach! Beachgoers scream an run amok. The shark seems to have its sights set on a lone paddleboarder, who is paddling away from you as hard as she possibly can. [[Continue->shark11]]You shake your head sadly, and reflect on the fact that while they are common in pop culture, shark attacks on humans are in fact very rare. Shame on this shark for perpetuating negative shark stereotypes! The shark's jaw quickly shuts, and you are plunged into the poor paddleboarder's foot. As you enter her toe, your field of vision flushes with red, and all you can smell is blood. [[Continue->human1]]There is a lot of splashing and shrieking. You feel in kind of an awkward position, so you kind of just leach further into her bloodstream, and wait things out. After a while, you get the sense that you're not underwater anymore. You can faintly hear someone say something about "pinky toes evolving away anyway", which hardly seems especially reassuring. As you move around blindly in the pitch black blood, you come to the troubling epiphany that every single person has darkness inside of them. Well, you're trapped now, with no choice but to explore this paddleboarder's adrenaline-riddled bloodstream. Cheers. [[Continue->human2]]You are in someone's foot. There isn't much to see here, except for for a bit of muscle tissue, bone, and blood. The toe are is wrapped in a bandage. You make an interesting observation, which is that feet don't smell that bad from the inside. [[Follow the dorsal artery, up into the leg->human3]] [[Examine the injury->human20]]You aren't great with directions, but based off the nearby bladder, you are in what you think must be in the pelvic area. [[Absorb into the bladder->human4]] [[Travel upwards, via the abdominal aorta->human5]] [[Travel down the femoral arteries, towards the leg->human2]]You are in a bladder. It's really not so blad. You are marvelling at how is remarkably full it is, when a passageway opens beaneath you and you feel yourself being pulled downward! [[Go with the flow, urine it to win it->sewer1]] [[Absorb back into the bloodstream->human3]]You are in a maze of twisty little arteroids, all alike. At the heart of it all, there is a muffled thumping sound. A heart! A beating heart! It is prettier in Valentine's day cards than in person, you decide. [[Travel up the cartoid artery, into the neck->human6]] [[Follow the subclavian artery, into the arm->human7]] [[Travel downwards, via the abdominal aorta->human3]]You feel as if you have been born again. As an appropriately ceremonial welcome to the world, you cascade into a large, white, porcelain chalice. Unfortunately, your opportunity to explore your charming surroundings is cut short, and you are sucked downward into a dark slimey pipe. [[Continue->sewer2]]You head to the head, and find yourself in a fleshy area somewhere behind the face. [[Follow the facial artery, towards the face->human10]] [[Follow the temporal artery, towards the brain->human13]] [[Follow the cartoid artery, down through the neck->human5]]You are travelling along the subclavian artery, which leads you to the axillary artery. To your left, you notice some sweat glands. [[Continue along the axillary artery->human8]] [[Move towards the sweat glands->human9]]You follow the axillary artery, but it just leads you back to the heart. [[Continue->human5]]You burrow your way through the some muscle tissue, leach your way into the sweat glands, and wind up secreted on the surface of the skin. Freedom! You wonder where exactly you are, and then it hits you- You are in the armpit. Or as it is more commonly known, the New Jersey of the human body. [[Continue->shower1]]As you start to congeal, you reflect on your life decisions that led you to this point. What went wrong? [[Ponder life->shower2]]You're just hanging out in the facial artery. [[Follow the superior labial artery, towards the mouth->human12]] [[Follow the lateral nasal artery, towards the nose->human11]] [[Travel down the facial artery, towards the base of the head->human6]] You figure you'd better be very careful here, as you could do some serious damage. The best thing would probably be to not go at all. [[Turn back->human13]] [[Nah, go ahead->brain2]]Unfortunately, the further down the pipe you go, the clearer it becomes that this isn't as nice of a place as you had initially thought. Eventually, you are spit out into an underground trench of slowly flowing filth. Rats scuttle. You're up a creek, so to speak. Even among the sludge, a hierarchy emerges. Liquids rise to the top, while solids settle to the bottom. You have two choices... option number one, or option number two: [[Rise to the top->sewer4]] [[Sink to the bottom->sewer3]]From your vantage point, you think he makes it to shore, but you can't quite tell. You slip into the sea, and a current pulls you towards warmer waters. [[Continue->ocean7]]Well, it would be rude not to introduce yourself. You roll gently in the other drop's general direction, but as you do, the leaf bends, and you and the other drop fall off the edge! [[Continue->hill4]]The truckbed lifts, and you tumble onto the garbage pile. You are still clinging to the inside of the styrofoam cup, and feel the garbage cooking around you in the hot sun. You dont have to wait long before another load of trash is dumped on top of you, and you are alone, crushed in the darkness between coffee cans and melon rinds. You have been buried alive, in a styrofoam cup. [[Continue->landfill7]]This isn't too bad, you think. All you have to do is wait for the styrofoam to decompose so you can make your way into the soil, and that couldn't take too long. [[Wait for a short while->landfill8]]You and your cloud break off, and float out to sea. The land is but a sliver on the horizon. [[Continue drifting->cloud7]] [[Precipitate->rain2]] You and your cloud break off, and drift inland at an excruciatingly slow rate. You pass over a rather unimpressive forest. In the distance you can see a city skyline. [[Continue drifting->cloud8]] [[Precipitate->rain3]]You are a tiny drop of water vapor, far above the ocean. In the distance you notice a sliver of land, and an ominous cloud. [[Float towards land->cloud1]] [[Float higher->high1]] [[Settle into the sea->ocean1]] `It's interesting, you think, how you never really had a fear of heights until you started falling. You wonder what the chances are that you fall on a trampoline. [[Continue->hill1]]"How come you never tolerate any creativity in knot tying? There's more than one way to tie rope together, Bob." [[Continue eavesdropping->bucket7]] [[Float down->bucket3]]Five hundred years later, the cup decomposes to the point that you can escape. All those wasted years. You blink back tears, and curse styrofoam under your breath. [[Seep deeper into the garbage sludge->landfill9]]Most of the garbage has turned into sludge over the last five hundred years, and you manage to seep through it rather easily. Easy, that is, until you hit a white, plasticky surface. You contemplate your surroundings. You are trapped in another styrofoam cup. [[Wait another five hundred years->landfill10]]A thousand years, just like that. Every living person, and their children, and their children's children, are now long dead, trapped in the earth, just like you. Humans may die. But humanity never changes. You pity mortals, but envy them for not having to worry about styrofoam. [[Continue->ground1]]You're already slumming it, so you might as well go all the way. You sink into the murky depths. Dark, mustardy-colored light only barely reaches you down here. You can feel a gentle force pulling you towards a large drain. [[Continue->sewer5]]You float to the surface in a last ditch attempt to retain some of your dignity, but it doesn't really work. Cream isn't the only thing that rises to the top. Far above you, you hear a peal of thunder, and suddenly, rainwater begins pouring into the sewer! You are swept towards a stone embankment... the sewer is flooding! As the water level rises, you just barely make it over the edge of the embankment. [[Continue->drain5]]You pour over the edge, and land in a large, churning, underground channel. You are rushed through a series of twisting tunnels. This is fun, you think! It's kind of like a waterpark, only without as much urine. [[Continue->drain4]]You are sucked downward into the foul smoothie, and feel yourself snaking through the thick pipe. The pipe is rusty and decrepid, and as you are pulled along, you notice that there is a gash in its side. [[Escape through the gash->leak1]] [[Continue snaking through the pipe->plant1]]You leach into the surrounding soil, which is wet and muddy. Suddenly, a blue plastic shovel cuts through the mud. You are scooped up by a little boy and plopped onto a crudely built mud castle. From your newfound throne, you can finally get a good look at your surroundings: a muddy embankment, next to a gently moving stream. A little girl is sitting in the mud a short distance away, carefully forming a mud ball. You wish there was some way you could communicate to these children where the mud came from. [[Continue->leak2]]The pipe goes on for some time, but there is a light the end of the tunnel... you are dumped into a large basin of sludge, which is baking in the sun. Metal walkways, winding pipes and rusty tankards are sprawled out around you. You spy a fading sign which reads, "S WAG -TREATMENT-PLANT". [[Continue->plant2]]You have been sitting in this tankard for far too long, when suddenly, a large spikey device starts coming straight for you! It is combing through the sludge, separating out solids. [[Stick to a spike->plant3]] [[Pass between the spikes->plant4]]You are caked on a spike. As it rotates, a crusty blade scrapes you off, and you drop onto a conveyor belt with other hardening lumps of muck. You pass through a dark tunnel, and are liberally doused with brain-meltingly strong chemicals, before being lowered into a bubbling vat of sludge. [[Continue->plant5]]You narrowly pass through the spikes, and find yourself draining into yet another tunnel. After passing through several filtration systems, you wind up in a gigantic vat of brown liquid. Automatic sprinklers sprinkle you with chlorine, and you are scanned with UV rays. [[Continue->plant9]]After a long while in the bubbling vat, you are pumped into a metal chute. As you tumble down the chute, you see some good news: there is a light at the end of the tunnel! The bad news is that it is the unmistakable glow of a hot fire. You are heading straight into a giant incinerator. Your dignity may have been lost somewhere along the way, but your identity is unchanged: You are still a drop of water. Historically, fire and water haven't always gotten along, but there is nothing you can do now. You fall headfirst into the flames. [[Continue->plant7]]"A knot really has one job, which is to stay tied. Your knot has clearly failed in this endeavour, that's all I'm saying." This apparently too much for the first fisherman, who, possessed by a fit of rage, grabs the bucket of water and flings it straight into his companion's face! You are in his caught in his beard. He stands there for a second, beard dripping, mustache twitching, before breaking into an enraged sprint. You try to cling to his fishy beardhairs, but as he whips around a sharp corner, you go flying over the side of the boat deck. [[Continue->bucket12]]You are floating in the ocean, next to a dirty fishing boat. A metal pipe exudes clouds of exhaust into the water. You and the boat mutually agree to part ways. [[Continue->ocean1]]It isn't meant to be. You roll towards the other end of the leaf and fall off the edge! You plummet onto the forest floor below. You glance around to see if the other drop fell off as well. [[Continue->hill5]]Darn it! You always mess things up. It's hard to start a conversation in free fall. Soon enough, you hit the forest floor, and search frantically for the other drop. [[Continue->hill5]]You try to be subtle, but as you roll towards the other drop, gravity takes control. You collide head on, and before you can even apologize, you have blossomed from two small drops of water into one slightly larger drop of water. You have the feeling that great things will come from this union. [[Continue->hill7]]Your pondering is brought to an abrupt stop by the sound of running water. You find yourself being scrubbed at with soap. You are in a hot shower! Suddenly you are suds. You slither down a leg, and slip quietly down the drain. This isn't too bad, you think. All the soapy water around you makes you feel like you are taking a nice soaky bubble bath. [[Continue->sewer2]] SSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! In an instant, you sizzle up into a hot drop of steam. Around you is a thick barrage of filthy smoke. You float upwards with the smoke, and find yourself being funnelled into a sooty pipe. [[Continue->cloud6]] It's not quite as bad as going through the TSA, but it's up there. 40 hours later, the water around you has cleared up significantly. You decide to forge your own path to the top. [[Float higher->high2]]You can't tell whether you are above the land or the ocean any more, but it doesn't matter. Maybe you'll be able to finally break free of this cursed atmosphere, and leave earth and all its problems behind for good! However, as you climb ever higher, you start to feel a deep, inevitable coldness growing inside of you. Reality comes crashing down, and you feel yourself turn from water vapor back into a water drop. [[Continue->cloud9]]You are a tiny drop of water vapor, far above the ground. In the distance you can make out the ocean, and an ominous cloud. [[Float towards the coast->cloud1]] [[Float higher->high1]]As you attain upward mobility, you realize: being a gas is a gas! Lighter than air, you ascend into ascendancy. You simultaneously feel up, high, up high, and high up. You are above the clouds, above the law, above everyone. An airplane passes under you. You run into a thin layer of ozone, which is kind of annoying, but luckily you can break through it pretty easily. [[Continue->high3]]You plunge deeper into the brain. You wonder if you can find where conscience is. You squish around for a bit, fruitlessly. [[Travel further into the brain->brain]] [[Turn back->brain3]]The weight of the cloud gurgles dangerously. You condense into a raindrop, and the surrounding cloud follows suit. There is a torrential downpour onto the poor beachgoers, who run for cover. A group of small children, one of whom sports a birthday hat, sit at a picnic table, crying over a runny cake. Like you planned, you land on the sand. You sink beneath the surface, somewhat embarassed. [[Continue->rain4]]You are inside of a towering cloud, far above the ocean. There is nothing but ocean as far as you can see. [[Continue drifting->cloud7]] [[Precipitate->rain2]]If a cloud rains over the ocean and nobody hears it, does it make a sound? Yes, as it turns out. The weight of the cloud gurgles dangerously. [[Continue->brain4]]The mind is a maze, but you finally find you way out. [[Continue->human13]]No, actually you have to sit in different tankard for another ten hours while they run tests on you. But after that, you are sucked into yet another twisty pipe! [[Continue->drain4]]Whatever skull you were once confined within seems to have disappeared completely. You're not inside of a brain anymore, you are floating in space. Neurons fire around you like paparazzi. You are suddenly gripped by an intense fear of sharks. You're not even sure if you're a drop of water anymore. You look down. You are a human woman. [[Continue->brain5]]You try to move, but you are paralyzed. You are completely trapped within your new body. You slowly become aware of your surroundings: you are laying on a couch in a cramped living room. A TV blares. You look down at your foot, which is heavily bandaged. Your body stands up. The room swims around you, and you stumble towards a door. It's a bathroom door, but you don't know how you know that. [[Continue->brain6]]You turn to face the bathroom mirror, and find yourself staring at a face which you know to be your own, but is also completely alien. You eyes widen in horror, and your skin stretches grotesquely. Water starts pouring out of the wall. [[Continue->brain7]]This isn't good. You realize that you have probably broken down the walls between your own consciousness and the consciousness of this poor paddleboarder's, most likely at the cost of both of your sanities. Reality continues to dissolve, and the bathroom continues to fill with water. You start vomitting, but all that comes out is more water. The bathtub floats away. [[Continue->brain8]]You are competely underwater now. Uncertain of what to do, you start swimming for your life. [[Turn around->deep6]] [[Keep floating->deep10]]You've been trying to get more into meditation, now seems as good a time as any to start. You do nothing. [[Continue doing nothing->deep8]] [[Stop doing nothing->deep9]]If you are just a drop of water in the ocean, where do you stop and where does the ocean begin? Such distinctions seem insignificant now. You realize that the more you do nothing, the more you become nothing. [[Continue doing nothing->deep11]] [[Stop doing nothing->deep9]]The only trouble with stopping doing nothing is that it involves starting doing something. And in this regard, your options are limited. [[Float up->deep2]] [[Float down->deep3]]You keep floating for a very long time. Part of you wonders if you started going the wrong way to begin with, and now you're only making things worse by continuing. You feel under a huge amount of pressure. [[Keep floating->deep14]] [[Turn around->deep6]]You're not even sure what you really are anymore. The only certainty is darkness. [[Continue doing nothing->nothing1]] [[Stop doing nothing->deep9]]There is nothing. [[There is nothing->nothing1]] [[There is something->nothing2]]And how can this be known? [[Through logic->nothing3]] [[Thtough the senses->nothing4]] [[Through intuition->nothing5]]The amount of pressure you're under seems to only be increasing the further you go. You are busy pondering what this could mean with regards to your direction when, unexpectedly, you run headfirst into a wall. [[Ow!->deep15]]You realize that the wall is actually the ocean floor! It is rather barren and sickly. The water pressure is so high that as you try to move, you feel as if you are wading through molasses. The only thing you can detect is the faint scent of sulfur. [[Float towards the sulfur->deep16]] [[Float away from the sulfur->deep17]]The water grows warmer, and you get the creeping feeling that you are not alone. You start bumping into giant tube worms, which cling to the ocean floor, sucking on rocks in the darkness. You bump into a crab with eyes that have been dead for millenia. You wonder how anything in this place can possibly survive. The scent of sulfur is the only thing keeping you going. [[Continue->deep18]]Sulfur isn't a nice smell, so you make your way slowly across the ocean floor until you've steered completely clear of it. Now there is nothing but you and the darkness. [[Continue->angler1]]Suddenly, boiling hot water erupts beneath you. Gray plumes of minerals fill into the water, and all nearby surfaces are seared by the heat. You are well above boiling level yourself, and you shoot upwards into the black ocean sky. [[Continue->deep19]] And how can it be known that the senses do not decieve? [[Through logic->nothing3]] [[Through the senses->nothing4]] [[Through intuition->nothing5]]And how can it be known that foundations of logic are not false? [[Through logic->nothing3]] [[Through the senses->nothing4]] [[Through intuition->nothing5]]And how can it be known that intuition truly exists? [[Through logic->nothing3]] [[Through the senses->nothing4]] [[Through intuition->nothing6]]And from this awareness of your own intuition, what can be known? [[That I am->nothing7]] [[That there is nothing->nothing1]]By recognizing that at least your own consiousness must exist, you have restored your sense of self. You are not an abstract concept drifting through an eternity of emptiness. You are a sentient being. You are firmly based in reality. You are- [[Continue->deep1]]You examine the entrance wound, in the hopes it might serve as an exit, but the bandaging is very thourough. The pinky toe seems to have been completely obliterated. You decide you've seen enough; you've never been very good with blood. [[Continue->human2]]Gradually, dim light filters through the miles of murky water sprawled out dangerously above you. You continue floating upward, propelled by your warmth in the frigid sea. You finally make it to the surface, and breath a deep sigh of relief. There's no place like home. [[Continue->ocean1]]A faint speck of light appears in front of you. You are intrigued. [[Follow the light->angler2]] [[Turn away from the light->angler3]]You drift toward the speck of light, which bounces away playfully. You let out an involuntary giggle. [[Follow the light->angler6]] [[Turn away from the light->angler8]]The light fades and you find yourself once again surrounded by complete darkness. [[Explore the ocean floor->angler4]] [[Float up, into the open ocean->angler5]]You explore the ocean floor and find nothing but darkness and misery. [[Explore some more->angler4]] [[Float up, towards the open ocean->angler5]]You float upwards. If you're ever going to get anywhere, it won't help hanging around at the bottom of the sea. [[Continue->deep1]]The speck of light continues to dance about. What a funny little fellow! He sure has a spring in his step. You keep following him, reciprocating his wiggles. [[Continue->angler7]]There is a sudden burst of cold light. The light falls across a rotted, sunken face, which unhooks its skeletal jaw and lurches towards you. Its mass of stringy teeth glisten, and you are petrified by fear. [[Continue->angler9]]You try to turn away from the light, but you are so transfixed by it, that you find yourself following it anyway. [[Continue->angler6]]Of course, the fleshy fish-face isn't after you, but rather a small shrimp. The shrimp quickly surrenders to the terrible creature's filth-encrusted throat, and the ocean is once again plunged into darkness. You were so carried away by the speck of light that you're not sure where you are any more. [[Float down, towards the ocean floor->angler10]] [[Float up, towards the open ocean->angler5]]You float towards the ocean floor, but it isn't there. You seem to have misplaced it. You search around some more, fruitlessly. You are completely disoriented. [[Continue->deep1]]
