Homework:

  • Homework assignments will be posted on the Homework Assignments web-page approximately one week prior to the due date specified.
  • Homework will be based on both the lecture material and lab section demonstrations.
  • Assignments should be handed in to the instructor at the end of the lecture on the due date.   Though not the preferred method, submitting assignments by e-mail is permissible, however, students will not receive a corrected assignment.   No assignments will be accepted after 3:00pm on the due date.
  • Homework grade will be based on the six best scores of the seven possible assignments.
Lab (Quiz) Section:
  • Most lab sections will have a relavent demonstration upon which a portion of the homework assignment will be based.
  • When time permits, the lab section will also be used to review the solutions to the homework assignment from the previous weeks.
  • Attendence in the lab section is mandatory as several of the demonstrations can not be repeated on an individual basis.   Lab section grade will be based on the attendence of six of seven possible lab sections.
Midterms:
  • Midterm exams will consist of both short-answer and multiple choice questions.
  • Although the second midterm will focus on the material covered during the period prior to the exam, the course is structured in a manner in which a thorough understanding of previously covered material is required.
Final Exam:
  • The final exam will be comprehensive, encompassing material from the entire quarter.
  • The format of the final exam will be similar to that of the midterms.
Extra Credit:
  • During the quarter students interested in an extra credit activity may participate in a forecast competition, in which students submit (over a secure website) a forecast of Seattle's maximum and minimum temperatures and precipitation for the following day.   Points will be credited based on the number of forecasts submitted.
