Homework:

  • Homework assignments will be posted on the Homework Assignments web-page approximately one week prior to the specified due date.
  • Homework will be based predominantly on the lecture material.
  • Assignments should be handed in to the the appropriate lab section at the beginning of the lecture on the due date. Though not the preferred method, submitting assignments by e-mail/CANVAS is permissible; however, students will not receive a corrected assignment. No assignments will be accepted after 10:45am on the due date.
  • Homework grade will be based on the six best scores of the seven possible assignments.
Quiz Section:
  • In order to encourage regular attendance and continued review of material covered in class, short quizzes will occur during the quiz sections near the end of the period.
  • The quizzes will be similar in format to the midterm and final (multiple choice and short answer questions).
  • The grade for the quiz component will be based on the best of six of seven quizzes.
  • There will not be a quiz on the first week of class nor the weeks of the midterms.
  • The quiz section will also be used to review the solutions to the homework assignment from the previous weeks.
Midterm:
  • Two 50-minute midterm examinations will be scheduled early in the quarter. The test questions will be composed of multiple choice and short answer formats.
Final Exam:
  • The final exam will be comprehensive, encompassing material from the entire quarter.
  • The final exam is tentatively scheduled for Monday, March 16th at 8:30am. The test questions will be composed of multiple choice and short answer formats.
Extra Credit:
  • During the quarter students interested in an extra credit activity may participate in a forecast competition, in which students submit (over a secure website) a forecast of Seattle's maximum and minimum temperatures and precipitation for the following day.
  • Points will be awarded based on the number of forecasts submitted and your ranking relative to certain benchmarks; if insufficient forecasts are made you will receive no extra credit (specific details on amount of credit will be outlined prior to the contest start date).
