Hurricanes and Coupled Atmosphere-Ocean Systems

Chad Small

Graduate student
Department of Atmospheric Sciences
University of Washington, Seattle

My research interests broadly investigate severity and frequency of precipitation extremes – notably, severe rainfall – and its effects on the biosphere.

Non-Technical Communication Experience

Beyond my scientific work, I have also spent the last few years doing journalistic work. My writing has appeared in multiple publications – including, but not limited to, Grist, Next City, and Gothamist – often focusing on environmental justice, the built environment, science policy, and responses to a changing climate.
