The Effects of Global Warming in High Latitudes:
Reduction of Sea Ice

What is the IPCC?

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established in 1988 by the Word Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme. The IPCC does not conduct its own research, rather its role has been to assess the scientific basis of the risk of anthropogenic climate change. The IPCC also assesses the possible impacts of global climate change and options for adaptation and mitigation. Every few year the IPCC publishes an Assessment Report aimed at both the scientific community and public policy makers. For more information about the IPCC and the 2001 Assessment Report, visit their website at http://www.ipcc.ch/index.html.
