Three new data science degree options in Atmospheric Sciences

Every day billions of pulses of light are emitted from satellites to measure Earth’s atmosphere and surface. Data from satellites and other ground-based observation systems are used in every branch of the atmospheric sciences. Data are ingested in weather, climate, and chemistry models to make predictions, and data analysis allows us to interpret current and past conditions.

The Department of Atmospheric Sciences is pleased to announce three new degree options in Data Science, offered in partnership with the eScience Institute at UW. These Atmospheric Science degrees include a BS with a focus in Data Science, and PhD options in Data Science and Advanced Data Science. All three options are effective Autumn quarter 2020.

Students choosing these options will gain a formal education in the principles of data science and develop techniques that they can apply to their studies, research, and future careers.
